Late French Immersion Registration for September, 2011

This is the time of year we start planning for our new students in September 2011. This information is for families considering registering at our school for Late French Immersion next school year. If, after reading this information, you still have questions, please feel free to call the school at (250) 478-5571 or to send us an email. We will do our best to answer your question(s) as quickly as possible.

Parent Information Night

We have organized an information night for parents to learn more about our Late French Immersion Program (for students going into Grade 6). Parents are invited to come to the school library on Tuesday, February 1st at 6:30 PM in order to learn more about entering the Late French Immersion program, and to ask any questions they may have. This is a great opportunity for parents and prospective students and we encourage those interested to attend.

Late French Immersion

Students who are currently in Grade 5 are eligible to register for Late French Immersion for their Grade 6 year. The program only runs if there is sufficient registration. No French background is required for students to join this program. Because this is a district-wide program and due to the limited spaces available in the Late French Immersion program, registration will be dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis (unless there are extenuating circumstances). Registration begins at 8:00 AM on Monday, February 7, 2011 at our school. Early registration is not possible.

Special tables will be set up in the foyer next to the main office in order to help the registration process go smoothly. Although we don’t encourage it, experience has shown that parents arrive earlier than 8:00 and line up. The elementary doors (the ones exiting onto Zealous Crescent, next to our school’s reader board) are the ones that will be used to bring registering parents into the school. We ask that registering families not park in the staff parking lot (the one nearest the Middle School doors).

Parents coming to register will be given an number (based on the order in which they enter the school). This number represents the place a student holds in the registration sequence. Parents registering two children for Late French Immersion should make sure they get two numbers. This applies to parents registering their own children only (it is not possible, for example, for one parent to register their own child, and also the children of their friends, and therefore get more than one registration number). This number will be stapled to all of the documentation collected by the secretary when you register, and will serve as confirmation of a student’s place in the registration order.

Grade 5 students currently attending a school in the Sooke School District only need to submit a completed registration form. Students from outside of our district wishing to register for our Late French Immersion Program must also bring proof of age and residence. In order to speed up the registration process, we recommend that parents download and fill out a registration form in advance of February 7th.
